Kel said he couldn't wait to see all the Italian birds, but Lauren couldn't understand what the fuss was about. |
Introduction By Danny the Web Stig
We were approached by Lauren Stebbing and Carey Moldon who asked us to help them prepare their Mini for the Italian Job 2006, in which they hoped to raise £1500 for the Children's Charity NCH. Of course, we said "Yes!" Our only condition was that they provide us with an article which Lauren has done in the form of a photo diary which follows. We refurbished the wheels, applied Supagard to the car (Supagard kindly donated a full package!), Innotec Innox to the wheels and metal wear, and put RainScreen on the windows. We also applied a few stickers!
In the run up to the event, we did our best to publicize the cause and help raise sponsorship by putting up a page and banners all over the Clean Image website. We also made The Mini car of the week on two occasions! [1] [2]
You know you're in Venice when... |
WE ARRIVE IN ITALY - 26th October
After an eventful 3 day journey from the UK, Carey (Kel), the car and me made it to Venice in one piece. Our journey down was a nice one apart from the one night sleeping in the car in Turin. Unfortunately our holiday money didn't go into our account so we were stranded in Turin without petrol and to make it worse no bed for the night as all the hotels were fully booked due to a big football match. Minis are not the most comfortable of cars to sleep in but apart from a stiff neck and slight hypothermia we carried on and made it to the Holiday Inn Venice to a nice warm welcome from the Italian Job Crew.
DAY 1 - 27th October
After a few drinks on the first night and some well needed rest in a nice hotel, we were ready for our first day. Day 1 consisted of a boat trip into Venice to see the sights and take in the culture.

And of course make friends with the locals...
Lauren could learn to like it here! |
No driving today - the organisers thought it would be best to give us a day off ready for our 7am start on Day 2, the first day of the Navigational Rally, "Bring it on"…
