When dent repair goes wrong...
We don't know who did this, if it was a novice or just somebody who thought they could 'pop' the dent out them self. This is an exceptionally bad example of a dent that has been messed up, but we do see 'failed' dents fairly often -- although not as exaggerated as this.
The dent needs to be massaged out from the outside inward, once you get lumps in the middle, it's no longer possible to get them out. This will need to go to a body shop, it may even need a replacement panel. So this amateur effort has pushed the cost of repair up by about 500%.
The photo was sent to us by Peter (one of our Experts) who saw the car sitting on a transporter at Chelmsford Car Auctions. It's likely that this came from a dealership who to the car as a trade-in and were not prepared to spend the money on the repair* in order to make the car ready for the showroom.
*Car dealers are taxed on total profit from purchase to sale and cannot claim repairs as deductions.
