These days, the market value of a car is almost
totally dependant on the cosmetic appearance and mileage,
with mechanical reliability being barely a factor. With manufacturers
making cars which are less robust than they once were, it can be
difficult to maintain a car in A1 condition, however, that is what
the lease companies would really like because any damage devalues
a car effecting their profits.
The cost of devaluation is passed back to the fleet
manager in the form of penalty recharges and/or higher premiums on
the next lease making costs rise. The only solution to this is to
return car to the lease company in better condition. This problem
needs to be tackled at both ends, educating drivers to take better
care of them from the moment they are handed the keys, managing
the damage and preparing the car for return at the end of the lease.
