Mountfitchet Castle Review by Beccy
A reenactment on an event day
Mountfitchet Castle is a unique time capsule. With its
commanding position overlooking the Stort Valley, Mountfitchet Castle is
situated on its original site which is steeped in history. Formerly an
Iron Age hill fort, this historic site was also a Roman signals fort and
later a Saxon and Viking settlement before being attacked in 1066 by the
army William the Conqueror who built a wooden motte and bailey castle here.

Comments: "The Dinosaur and Toy
sections were brilliant with the kids. There was even Star Wars memorabilia
in there I've been wanting for years. Very jealous."
"The castle was fantastic. It was so easy to step back and think
of it under all its different periods of rule. I wish I could have been
there to witness it all. I had to make do with looking for relics instead."
