After a good wash I pulled the car outside to take some photos of the paintwork.

micro-scratches

The photo above shows the boot lid - the spider webs are fairly bad but we have seen worse.

The above photo of the bonnet shows that the car is covered in micro scratches which are common on almost all vehicles - some people call the 'washing marks' as that's how you usually get them.

The above photo shows these 'swirl marks' close up. Unlike the Porsche which has very soft paintwork, we were soon to discover that the paint on the Mercedes was actually quite hard. This means that the scratches were not very deep for the most part, although there will usually be some on any car that we can't remove.
