and Preparation
By having your car inspected before you return it to the lease company, you know exactly what you are likely to be charged for so you can make decisions as to what to do about it. This allows you to save hundreds of pounds when you return your lease car.
This article is not meant to portray that the leasing companies charge more than they should charge for excess wear and tear but to point out that most drivers are completely unaware of what is involved and the responsibility they have once the lease has finished and what they can do about it.

We show a Toyota that has quite a lot of damage, none very serious but enough of it spread over multiple panels to mean that returning the car as-is and accepting the recharges for excess wear & tear would prove costly. We estimate that this car would have incurred over £800+vat in charges. The cost of repairs was £288.94+vat, the inspection and valet cost £68+vat. Any remaining damage came in under the threshold. There were no recharges.
Note: We talked to the lease company after this Prius went back, they made no recharges to the customer and better still, the car sold first time at a price that the lease company were very happy with. Therefore, everybody wins including the dealer who bought the car and the end user they sold it to.
