"How good is Supagard? - is it worth it?"

Note: We have updated this subject and there are much better articles about Supagard reviews here and here.
When I surf the interweb (I promise I never do this when I should be working) I often come across discussions about various paint sealants - often the question that gets asked is "Do they work and are they worth it?" At his point I wish that people could see what I have seen. We are in a rather unique position because cars that have been paint sealed by us often come back every year so we get to see how the sealants are coping. That's how we know they are good.

Passat

The VW Passat pictured above is a very good example. The story behind this car is that a car trader brought the car to us five years ago and had it given the Supagard treatment before handing it over to the customer.

Now the trader is getting them a new car and he has taken this car back in part exchange so he has brought it back to us to see what we can do with it.

I won't lie to you, this car is a mess - as well as some serious body damage the paintwork is scratched and in places stained. But this car has not been waxed in five years! All in all this car is in amazing condition all things considered.

We enquired and found out that the car had been washed by hand and occasionally put through a car wash (which shows) but over the last five years has not been polished or waxed. In fact it hadn't even been washed as often as it should - it was quite badly neglected. We would expect to see quite a lot of oxidization of the paintwork, it should be flat and possibly faded.

The panel on the left has been treated with Supagard, the panel on the right has not!

At some point the car had been involved in an accident and the boot had been resprayed, this had not been coated in Supagard and as a consequence had faded, oxidized and the paintwork had even bubbled and peeled as can be seen in the photo above - this is what you would expect of a car not waxed for so long.

Even before we washed it, it was shiny enough to see your reflection in.

We shy away from the "never wax your again" slogan used by some sealant companies as you are supposed to use the aftercare products on most sealants - and they don't last forever. So what we found so amazing about this car was that Supagard is guaranteed for 3 years yet the car still looks pretty good after 5 years. I won't say that it looks like a new car, or that the paintwork is in generally good condition because it's not, but there is no doubt that the car has benefited from the Supagard treatment and looks much, much better than we would expect. It should be borne in mind that this car wasn't treated from brand new.

We often get to see cars like this that we have applied Supagard or Diamondbrite to and we have no doubt that they live up to and exceed all their claims.
