Step 2 - Preparing yourself and your car

Get it all together

You will need to return your car AND EVERYTHING that came with the car, so you will need to collect together all the documents (service history, manual and log book if you were issued with it), master key/card, and any bits-and-bobs which you might have removed from the car which belong with it. more»
Some lease companies will provide a list of their charges upon request, if you can get one of these, please bring it with you.

Get it clean

Your car needs to be clean when it is returned under the terms of your lease. But it also needs to be cleaned properly for us to be able to inspect it properly which is why we have built our 'Lease Return Valet' into this service which will get in clean enough for us to be able to do a thorough inspection. This is enough to bring the majority of cars up to a reasonable standard for return, but it is a fairly basic valet and doesn't allow us lots of time, so please remove all your personal possessions from the car, including any rubbish that may have accumulated. If your car is especially dirty there are other services you can choose from our normal valet menu to deal with stains, odours etc.

Or you may wish to have a go at doing the worst of the inside yourself! D.I.Y. Valeting »

Know your stuff

Scuffed door edge.We really recommend that you have a good look around your car yourself and make a mental note of any damage you find - if you can honestly say that your car only has 1-2 areas of concern, then you may not need a lease return inspection and can just go ahead and get these fixed. But that would be a rare exception! The vast majority of cars have damage which looks slight, but can incur a penalty - and the drivers who tend to get most upset by recharges are those who thought they had fixed everything, but missed something like a dent on a sill or a rusting stone chip.
If you have 3 or more areas of damage we will almost certainly be able to save you money... if you are unsure you can get a better idea by learning a little bit about lease return, there is an awful lot to learn but we have an online guide which has most of it. So once you have read the rest of this 6 page guide, paying special attention to the FAQ, you can find out more by reading the leasing guide at www.clean-image.co.uk/leasing and also think about how you will care for your next lease car.
